- ANGHARAD STOODLEY DE CARVALHO -

Looking for a psychological therapist can seem daunting.

What does this mean about me?

Who do I to trust?

How does it all work?

Sometimes our fear of seeking psychological therapy is the greatest barrier to getting the support we need.

If you are worried about any of these sorts of things (totally normal by the way!) or you just want to get started, I would love to hear from you!  We can think together about what may be most helpful to you right now.

WHAT IS CBT?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is an evidenced-based psychological intervention.  NICE Guidelines encourage CBT as a first line intervention for many of the primary mental health difficulties such as depression and the anxiety disorders and there is a large body of evidence supporting its efficacy in these areas.  CBT works to identify the connections between our thoughts, our emotions, our feelings and our behaviours.  CBT looks at the interpretations we make about people, places, situations, ourselves based on our personalities, our experiences, our genetic predisposition.  CBT helps us to identify the meanings we attribute to our thoughts, feelings and behaviours and those of others.  CBT works cognitively and behaviourally to help identify what is contracting our lives, what we could be doing and how we could be thinking differently to live the life we often only look at from afar.

WHAT IS EMDR?

NICE Guidelines recommend Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy to treat Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. It may also be used successfully to treat other mood disorders.  EMDR is a psychotherapy that helps the individual to process memories that remain unprocessed causing the sufferer to experience unpleasant and often distressing or disturbing symptoms such as flashbacks, nightmares and changes in our mood.

My treatment uses CBT and EMDR treatment protocols interweaving tools from integrative psychotherapy skills and compassion focused therapy.  I am happy to discuss both these treatment options with you, following our assessment and support you towards deciding which treatment may be right for you.

TESTIMONIALS

‘As a therapist you have a special gift in the way you deal, treat and associate with your clients.  You have changed me and my life and for that I will be eternally grateful’.

‘The biggest thing out of everything is talking to someone.  It’s amazing. Talking to someone gets it out of you – when you talk about things it comes out of you and it’s on the table and you can look at it differently.  It’s been lovely having a caring person like yourself to talk about things that you would never talk to people you know about’.

‘Thank you for all the help, support and guidance you have given me – I feel like a totally different person’.

‘Many thanks for your support, ‘ear’ and remembering the little things’.

‘You were a calming and understanding influence who has helped me believe in myself’.

‘I found it really an amazing experience working with you … we had a real understanding together’.

‘You have helped me so much – you have been a huge part of giving me the tools and the strength to do this journey.  You have taught me so much about myself and helped me to start finding my feet again – You have become like my guardian angel battling this dark demon inside me.  I will never forget what you have done for me’.

‘Thank you for all of your help and guidance.  I am really grateful for your help when I lost my way a little off my journey in life.  The things that I have learnt will help me throughout my life’.

‘Thank you, thank you, thank you so much for everything.  I still picture your face and the compassion which shines in you.  You really inspired me to be well, not again, but for the first time’.

'Most importantly, thank you for your time, patience, assistance, care and genuine interest in helping me’.

‘Thank you for helping me to see the way out of the dark clouds into the sunshine’.
